MIKE BARRA
Mike Barra and the Barracudas: Lyrics with teeth; music with hooks, performing original folk, country and blues, with jazz and rock influences.
No awards, credits, validation or name dropping required here. Expect killer tunes and great players!
Mike Barra is a local singer songwriter/folksinger from the early seventies. Mike’s been writing songs for 47 years and playing guitar for fifty. Some call him crazy, and note that his music is as neurotic as he is, that it’s “all over the place”, from comical to heart wrenching. To Barra, lyrics are what it’s all about. Music’s his vehicle to move words. So if you really listen to words….
John Holland, lead guitarist, has roots in jazz and country, with plenty of Phish and Grateful Dead influence. His vast diversity and unique way of visualizing music always adds that twist of lime or a little cayenne pepper as the dish requires. Most of all Holland really knows how to have fun. And it’s right there in his playing.
Sean Dibble is a percussionist/multi instrumentalist/composer based in South Florida. He has performed and or recorded with a wide variety of artists. He received a platinum record for a recording he did with Julio Iglesias. (“Noche De Quatro Lunas”) He has also worked with Afro Brazilian singer Angela Patua, world fusion band Outdance, and Haitian roots band Ayebombe, as well as his current groups Music Is…, Rhythm Flow, and The Barracudas. Sean has been working at the New World School of the Arts as an accompanist with the dance department since 2000 and as a result has composed music for many choreographers and has worked with some of the biggest names in dance. Sean also works as an accompanist for the Joffrey Ballet, during their Summer residencies in Miami.
Alex Moreno, who has perfect pitch, found an electric bass in the garbage when he was 9 and started playing solos…very good, very scary ones! He was recruited by the Barracudas when he was 16. He’s now 23 and has an original death metal band called Eunoia, performing all Alex compositions.
What these very talented though diverse characters all have in common is a deep love for folk and country music, and since anyone in this band can do anything, one can always expect something from way out in left field… left of the milky way, that is!
