GRAHAM WOOD DROUT DAMAGED BOOGIE AND DIRT FLOOR BLUES The word “legendary” gets thrown around a lot but every now and then it rings true. Graham Wood Drout is a legendary song writer, band leader, artist and visionary. For more than thirty years Drout has been fronting the equally legendary South Florida roots and blues band IKO-IKO. In 2012 Graham Wood Drout began reworking many of his classic songs and writing new material inspired by the uncompromising, raw sounds of such bluesmen as Robert Nighthawk, John Lee Hooker, Bo Diddley and Hound Dog Taylor. Damaged blues. Drout also gathers inspiration from such contemporaries as Otis Taylor, Papa Mali, Bob Dylan,Tom Waits and the Cowboy Junkies. Drout’s songs have garnered him many accolades and awards. His “Ghosts of Mississippi” recieved the Blues Critics Choice Award for Best Blues Song 2007.His song “Big Toe,” recorded by Albert Castiglia became a Friday afternoon favorite on Bill Wax’s Bluesville on Serious radio. Blues Revue Magazine has called Drout a “genius” for reworking the mythology and iconography of the blues and telling a whole new story. “Feeling just like Jesus just came back,” I’m afraid to fall asleep,” and “I just shot my wife,” are a few of his latest creations. Drout’s guitar style has been described as “Chuck Berry meets Phil Upchurch. Great tone and economical, melodic phrasing.”
