Damaged blues. Drout also gathers inspiration from such contemporaries as Otis Taylor, Papa Mali, Bob Dylan,Tom Waits and the Cowboy Junkies. His “Ghosts of Mississippi” recieved the Blues Critics Choice Award for Best Blues Song 2007.His song “Big Toe,” recorded by Albert Castiglia became a Friday afternoon favorite on Bill Wax’s Bluesville on Serious radio. Blues Revue Magazine has called Drout a “genius” for reworking the mythology and iconography of the blues and telling a whole new story. “Feeling just like Jesus just came back,” I’m afraid to fall asleep,” and “I just shot my wife,” are a few of his latest creations.
