Event Details

Derelict Daughter is a dynamic female two piece recently from Central Illinois.  A collaboration between singer songwriter K Klotz and multi instrumentalist Michelle Elaine, these two will race you down the river, and land you in the church.  Their songs are built on guitar and percussion, violin, two banjos, and a hand-me-down accordion. Grounded in midwest summers and Americana roots, they draw inspiration from so many musicians, including Brandi Carlile, Shovels and Rope, Mandolin Orange, and Ani DiFranco.

Michelle set off to learn the lay of the land about five years ago with her violin and bare hands.  After a couple years of street music and watching the country fly by, she paused in Peoria, IL long enough to join bluegrass band Woodland Remedy in January of 2017.  She has since played venues from Chicago to Iowa and down to Tennessee. Together they’ve opened for Jeff Austin, The Steeldrivers, Cornmeal, and Growler. Somewhere along the way she picked up a banjo.

K’s incredible arsenal of original music began the first time a guitar was put in her hands and hasn’t slowed since.  Her voice will first sweep you away, then wake you up and shake you to your core. As their forces began to merge sometime last fall, sparks danced around them, and the project was born.

After a summer on the road out West, they set sail for Miami, and just made port in September.  As the weather eases, these two are settling in. For the pair, this is a season of exploration, of finding their ways in these tropics, and writing their first album together, set to record in the Spring.
