BIG CITY FOLK BAND
Big City Folk Band is comprised of University of Miami students and combines folk, bluegrass, old-time, Celtic, country, and occasional rock, jazz, and pop influences into a style that follows in the footsteps of artists such as Alison Krauss, Chris Thile, and Tony Rice (with obvious nods to Bill Monroe and Flatt & Scruggs along the way).

The band’s latest release is Katherine Evans’s “Undone,” which was produced by fellow UM artist Colin McKinley. The group has been performing throughout the Miami area, and is currently in the process of recording a 4-song EP with Miami-based producer and singer/songwriter Jordan Brown.

Bassist Sam Feinstein formed the band in December 2014 after meeting vocalist/fiddler Evans and multi-instrumentalist Matthew Clinkenbeard in one of UM’s contemporary music ensembles. The group’s original lineup consisted of these three musicians, joined by Garrett Smith on mandolin and vocals and Nick Chouard on vocals and guitar. This lineup recorded and released Chouard’s “Growth” in April 2015, before he departed the band to attend school in Nashville, TN. (He remains an honorary member.) The current BCFB lineup with Trish Vega on guitar and vocals solidified in August 2015, and the band has stayed busy writing and learning new material ever since. The band does not rely on one principal writer, and each member has contributed compositions to the band’s repertoire. Occasional, and often unlikely, covers are also present in the group’s shows.

Big City Folk Band’s EP is slated for release in April or May, 2016, and the band is currently making tour plans for Summer 2016.
