Godzilla’s Children
The Fantasy Cinema of Ishiro Honda and Eiji Tsuburaya

An Illustrated Lecture by Rick Wallach

Director-auteur Ishiro Honda and special effects wizard Eiji Tsuburaya formed one of the greatest fantasy film production teams in cinema history. This is their story, illustrated by rare backstage set photos and scenes cut from the original films – and the story of their legendary creations. The incredible worldwide success of 1954’s Godzilla put Honda, Toho Productions and Japanese cinema on the international map. It also spawned decades of sequels, as well as a phenomenal run of spinoffs featuring Rodan, Mothra and Ghidorah – and outer space battle films that anticipated later spectacles like Star Wars.

High Tea including scones, crumpets and sandwiches will be served.
