GOLDPINE
From Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion and the Kansas City Chiefs’ Arrowhead Stadium to listening rooms throughout the United States, husband-wife duo GOLDPINE has been offering their own brand of bold harmony-driven Americana to audiences large and small. WINNER of the 2022 Rocky Mountain Songwriter Contest, their distinctive harmonies are clearly a channel for their sometimes-raucous, sometimes-reminiscent compositions. With an incredible collection of stories about life, love, and purpose, their live performance is a powerful projection of everything Goldpine is about: striking vocals, bold harmony, and introspection into the human experience.

Janie Rothfield (fiddle, clawhammer banjo, vocals) & Scotsman Allan Carr (guitar, mandola, vocals) have been creating their unique blend of Appalachian and Celtic Music since 1978! They met while Janie was doing her junior year abroad for college in Aberdeen (Allan was singing and playing at a folk concert) and the rest is history! They have had a long and varied musical life together, living in Scotland/California/Scotland 1978-1988 and in the USA since 1988. They toured (and made numerous recordings) as a duo and with various bands throughout the USA, Europe and Canada. In addition to their concert performances, Janie and Allan play for contra and square dances, and teach extensively at music camps, festivals and workshops including at Janie’s own home-based music camps called Janie’s Jumpstart.
Janie is a powerhouse award winning fiddler and clawhammer banjo player, tune writer and singer. She got her start fiddling in Connecticut, and has learned and played with older generation musicians from both sides of the Atlantic, developing her own style and creating new music as well. Allan is an award winning traditional singer from the Northeast of Scotland, growing up and learning from traditional singers and musicians. He combines the best of his celtic guitar back-up with the drive of old time music that has resulted in his own powerful style to back up Janie’s fiddling. As singers, they have developed a harmonious blend of their voices and blended repertoire that is the result of the many years of singing and playing together.
“The Two of Us” is Janie & Allan’s 3rd duo recording and features their signature sound with music from traditional Appalachian and Celtic Music sources and their own newly composed songs and tunes. (*See attached recordings list) They play music that is both old and new, and takes the listener on a musical journey between both sides of the Atlantic to create a fiery collective unique sound.

Some astute fans were asked which two artists they would combine to describe one Raiford Starke, and they said:
“John Prine meets Ted Nugent.”
“Merle Travis meets Link Ray.”
“Jimmy Page meets Jerry Reed.”
“Doc Watson meets Johnny Guitar Watson.”
Actually, Raiford Starke is nothing if not David Allan Coe meets Jimi Hendrix, an outlaw country folk singer steeped in southern rock and psychedelic blues guitar. He’s an American original.
Colin Kenny is proud of his real name, but got stuck with the gallows humor of “Raiford Starke” long ago, branded by prison walls without ever having walked through their gates. It’s a Florida brand, the duo of state pens in the name recognizable to locals and fans of Ol’ Sparky, but Raiford Starke’s only crime is indecent distortion.
