THE FOLK WEASELS + MEGHAN CARY, NATIONAL SONGWRITER FINALIST!

The Folk Weasels, dear friends of the Luna Star Cafe, are BACK for a wonderful evening of music on Thursday, January 29th. They will be kicking off the South Florida Folk and Acoustic Music Festival Weekend on the Luna Star Cafe stage, joined by Meghan Cary, a National Songwriter finalist and her partner Peter Farrell.

The Folk Weasels are Tony Vitale and Wes Malkin. Tony is a guitarist originating from New York City. He played clubs and venues in NYC for years before coming to Florida. He plays a diverse blend of folk songs from Bob Dylan, John Prine, Townes Van Zandt to the Bee Gees.

Wes Malkin a multi-instrumentalist on mandolin, guitar, banjo, and trumpet. Wes grew up in the Washington DC area before moving to Wisconsin, where he played festivals and appeared on the Prairie Home Companion radio show with Garrison Keillor. Wes came to Florida in the early 80’s and has continued to play with bands such as Jabberwocky, Walter Parks, Hank Woji, Valerie C. Wisecracker and the Walking Catfish, The Hot Java Band, Amy Arlo and the Almost Blue Band, Sarah Jacobs Trio, Derelict Daughter and many others.

Meghan Cary delivers award-winning original songs with powerful vocals and unshakable stage presence. Called a “storytelling troubadour” by Billboard Magazine, Cary inspires connection and community with music that’s earned comparisons to Melissa Etheridge and Brandi Carlile. Her latest anthem “Raise Your Voice” has become a rallying cry for hope and unity. A favorite at festivals like the Philadelphia Folk Festival and Black Bear Americana, Cary has shared the stage with Christine Lavin and Sloan Wainwright; supported Joan Osborne, Lucinda Williams, Chris Smither, and Little Feat among others. An actor and playwright, she brings humor, heart, and courage to everything she does—from her music to her one-woman show, On the Way to the Waterfall. Her mantra: “If you don’t know the words… sing louder.” Meghan will be joined by her partner Peter Farrell and there are even rumors that her daughter Clara Gillett might play some tunes!
