08/25/10 WEDNESDAY 8 pm MICHAEL ISLA Welcome to the IslaGuitar Community! Here you will find mysteries wrapped in enigmas sprinkled with tartar sauce and served in a spinach burrito. "Music is my life"-I once said and I meant it. Instead of pretending, I pretend that I am faking it and with that I became who I thought I wanted not to be. Case in point: chocolate cake. Instead of bilateral pluralism I exercise unilateral existentialism. To be or not to be equals zero.

In 1993 she joined forces w/fellow singer/songwriter Marsia Shuron Harris and together they performed in the Keys and throughout New England as the duo Aye. http://www.ayemusic.com Their CD, "Sweet Life" was chosen in the top 10 albums of 2000 by The Greenfield Recorder and they received stellar reviews in Northeast Performer Magazine, The Boston Globe, The Key West Citizen and Key West The Newspaper, to name a few. 09/04/07 SATURDAY 8 pm SOUTH FLORIDA
FOLK CLUB PRESENTS SOLAR DOGS
Solar Dogs It’s so nice to see homegrown groups, especially when they combine some great talent. And Solar Dogs has gathered great performers to quickly create a legendary band which has become a denizen of Coconut Grove. Their recent performance in the lumber shed of Shell Lumber Company, complete with catered food and drinks severed on tablecloths and an art show, certainly takes them and the genre to a new level. And, with the active careers and perfomance schedules of all of the members, we are fortunate every time they come together so we can hear them. Solar Dogs are Zip Robertson, Eric Wagner, Steve Gaskell and Bill Kunz. The group has been together for almost a year and comes to us through the good work of our beloved Zip Robertson. One amazing ability Zip has, if you haven’t already noticed, is his abiity to become an instant sideman. We have had many acts appear at Luna Star who’s work Zip has never heard. But, he quickly gets right into their music adding depth and character to each piece. He sings lead and harmony vocals, plays rhythm guitar and harmonica with the Solar Dogs. As a harp player, he frequently accompanies Miami favorite Valerie Wisecracker, and backs up Grant Peeples and Chance Gardner when they perform locally. A native of Kentucky Zip is a United States Administrative Law Judge for the Office of Medicare Hearings and Appeals. Eric Wagner sings lead and harmony vocals, plays lead guitar and mandolin with the Solar Dogs. Much of the band’s repertoire consists of original songs written by Eric. He also plays blues with Blue Man Grove and jazz/blues with Really Thick Milk Shakes. A native of Ohio , Eric teaches Clinical Psychology at Florida International University Stephen Gaskell currently plays acoustic bass with Solar Dogs, The Wag Daddies, and Voodoo Cadillac and electric bass with The Funky Blue Tones, with occasional stints with local bluesmen such as Piano Bob and John Carey. Steve has played with other local blues groups over the years, such as Outa Da Blues, Robert Moore and Clifford Hawkins, including a 9 year run with national recording and touring artist Albert Castiglia. A native Floridian, Steve is a graduate of the University of Miami 's renowned Frost School of Music. He is currently the Manager of Oracle Systems at Mas Tec. Bill Kunz plays fiddle and mandolin with the Solar Dogs. However, he is renowned for his instrumental stylings on open-tuned guitar, charango, sitar and other exotic stringed instruments. Although born and raised in North Carolina , Bill has been a part of the South Florida music scene for many years, and has accompanied countless other performers. Bill is retired as a 747 Captain for Delta Airlines, but continues to work as a pilot instructor for Boeing. Bill is on tour to fiddle venues throughout the country and we hope he can make it back in time for this show. Ain’t much cell phone reception in Appalachia. Here is a case where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, and the parst are great themselves. And with the wide range of genres they bring to the stage, you are never quite sure which one they will draw on: originals, blues, country, pop and folk. It’s all good.
